W latach siedemdziesiątych zespół Yes wydał prawdopodobnie swoje najlepsze albumy. Bezsprzecznie »Fragile«, »Tales From Topographic Oceans« i »Close To The Edge« stanowią najlepsze pozycje w całej dyskografii zespołu. Wydany pierwotnie w 1972 roku album „Close To The Edge” składa się z trzech utworów: pierwszy trwa dobre dwadzieścia minut, a pozostałe dwa – około dziesięciu minut. Dzięki licznym nawiązaniom do muzyki klasycznej, zwłaszcza do formy sonatowej, udało się tu stworzyć muzykę, która – mimo swojej złożoności – po kilku odsłuchach nie daje się już wyrzucić z głowy. To jeden z wielkich klasyków gatunku progresywnego (w skrócie: prog rock), tyle jest pewne.
